Our son Randol and daughter Wendy in 1966, at Huntington Library in San Marino, California, climb on a bronze sculpture that depicts dogs attacking a stag, the children oblivious to the mortal combat so literally close at hand. Click on this sphere: Click to go to ICARUS...to read and listen to a poem that expresses a similar irony: Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Auden. You'll also find there a Web Museum Paris scan of the Renaissance painting that is the visual basis of the poem: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (1558) by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. There is also other poetry inspired by Brueghel's treatment of the Greek myth. Finally, there is Herbert Draper's painting, Lament for Icarus (1898) from the Tate Gallery.
